Announcing an exhibition and symposium in the Kislak Center for Special Collections, Rare Books and Manuscripts at the University of Pennsylvania: Across the Spectrum: Color in American Fine and Private Press Books, 1890-2015 On exhibit February 15-May 18, 2016 Goldstein Family Gallery, Van Pelt-Dietrich Library, sixth floor University of Pennsylvania This exhibition explores the establishment of a fine and private press movement in America, beginning at the end of the nineteenth century and continuing to the present day, through its various uses of color. The exhibition celebrates the recent acquisition by the Penn Libraries of The Jean-François Vilain and Roger S. Wieck Collection of Private Presses, Ephemera, & Related References. Muriel Pfaelzer Bodek Fund for Library Public Events The Art of the Book: Fine Printing in North America in the 21st Century Friday, February 26, and Saturday, February 27, 2016 Class of 1978 Orrery Pavilion, Van Pelt-Dietrich Library, sixth floor University of Pennsylvania Mark Dimunation, Chief of the Rare Book and Special Collections Division, Library of Congress, will deliver the keynote address. Speakers will explore the creation of fine press books; the history of color in books; art in and art of fine press books; teaching book arts to a new generation; the role of fine press books in the modern curriculum; and collecting and exhibiting fine press books. The exhibition and symposium are free and open to the public.
