Deadline reminder: February 15, 2106 GSK LIBRARY FELLOWSHIP The North Carolina Museum of Art Reference Library invites applications for the GSK Library Fellowship for the 2016–17 academic year (nine months: September–May). The GSK Library Fellow will be considered a professional member of the library’s staff and will work closely with the curatorial, education, conservation, and other Museum departments. The fellow will gain experience with all aspects of the operation of a museum library, learn more in-depth use of art reference resources to assist the staff and the general public with their inquiries, and learn to process material received in the library. The fellow will be responsible for projects relating to special exhibitions. The fellow will also be responsible for contributing to collection maintenance. The fellow will also explore venues to promote the library’s resources internally and externally. Other projects may arise if time permits. The Art Reference Library holds over 40,000 volumes including a substantial collection of artists’ files, auction catalogues, exhibition catalogues, periodicals, and subscriptions to pertinent online databases. The library’s holdings reflect the permanent collection of the Museum: an exceptional collection of art with particular strengths in European and American painting and sculpture and a rapidly growing collection in late modern and contemporary art. The library also supports research related to temporary exhibitions. A stipend of $25,000 is offered. The GSK Library Fellow will be expected to work in the Art Reference Library for an average of 25 hours per week. As this is a temporary role, we are unable to provide sponsorship or benefits. Eligibility: Consideration will be given to candidates recently graduated with a master’s degree in information and library science who have an interest in art librarianship. Educational background in art, art history, or a related field preferred. A decision will be announced by March 29. About the NCMA. The North Carolina Museum of Art is the State’s art museum, founded in 1947 when the North Carolina General Assembly appropriated $1 million for the purchase of works of art, making North Carolina the first state in the nation to acquire a public art collection. The Museum possesses an exceptional collection of art with particular strengths in European and American painting and sculpture, and rapidly growing holdings in late modern and contemporary art. There are also smaller, but active collections of ancient Egyptian and Classical art, and the arts of Africa and the ancient Americas, as well as a gallery dedicated to Jewish ceremonial art. An active program of exhibitions supplements the collections. The NCMA first opened in 1956 and moved to its present 164-acre park in 1983.
