Hello ARLIS/NA colleagues,

We are excited to announce the formation and first meeting of the ARLIS/NA Web Archiving Special Interest Group (SIG)!

The Web Archiving SIG<https://arlisna.org/organization/sigs> will steward the community of art librarians currently engaged or interested in collecting, preserving, and providing access to born-digital resources native to the World Wide Web. It will monitor and report on trends, standards, and services in order to facilitate resource sharing and the technical development of web archiving tools of especial value to art libraries and museums. We welcome members at all experience levels to share best practices for collection development, preservation, and access; software services; collaborative collecting; and the applications of web archiving as a strategy for managing ephemeral resources and institutional records.

The SIG will meet for the first time at the 3rd Joint Conference of ARLIS/NA & VRA, next month in Seattle. Our meeting, scheduled for 5:30PM on Wednesday, March 9, can be found on the online conference schedule here: http://arlisnavra2016.sched.org/event/5ZZW/web-archiving-sig<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__arlisnavra2016.sched.org_event_5ZZW_web-2Darchiving-2Dsig&d=CwMD-g&c=18_toIngWFRnTOSOpFsNCg&r=mQliwmK6zwfiIxbNQ4zgJQ&m=IdrQytsge5mH3iuPRBg1iny_FQE3Mycfwi5KD1ekV70&s=SjkQo2i2SSA7vFJx3TS1oLT_O3knumK_UdFxTM9604g&e=>. All attendees participating or interested in web archiving are invited to join in order to share their ideas, concerns, and questions about web archiving at their institutions. Our program will include an introduction to core web archiving concepts and tools for beginners, updates from ARLIS/NA members on their programs and projects, and news on ongoing technical development at the Internet Archive.

We look forward to seeing you in Seattle! Whether you can attend this year or not, however, please feel free to contact us directly with questions or to be added to our email list for future news and conversation about web archiving.

Cheers,

Sumitra Duncan, Frick Art Reference Library ([log in to unmask])
Karl-Rainer Blumenthal, Internet Archive ([log in to unmask])
