In celebration of the site-specific Art in the Windows exhibition Gifts New York Gave Me

acclaimed director Allen Coulter joins artist and culinarian Amelia Coulter to discuss how their shared multidisciplinary interest in storytelling overlaps, and how New York City has encouraged, affected and inspired their work in different eras, neighborhoods and fields. They also consider whether there are particular family values that lead them to the subjects and styles to which they are drawn.

Amelia Coulter is an artist, chef and entrepreneur, and owner of Sugarbuilt Cookies. She was raised in New Mexico and lived in Washington D.C. before receiving a BFA in Sculpture from SUNY Purchase. She has lived in Brooklyn since 2006. Her career has taken her through the workspaces of factories, private supper clubs, fine dining restaurants, cafes, catering companies, soup kitchens and private clients. She currently works as Executive Pastry Chef at Nourish Kitchen + Table in the West Village. Sugarbuilt cookies have graced the covers of Edible Brooklyn and Lucky Peach magazines, and been featured in art installations, markets, special events and retail stores. Coulter continually works with food, drawing, color, photography and events to create context, stories, and translations of what she finds most interesting, concepts she draws from traditions, architecture, patterns and culture. She was a panelist on the 2014 Art and Food Series event Tastemakers: Creatives in the Culinary Arts.

Allen Coulter has directed two feature films, Hollywoodland starring Ben Affleck and Remember Me, as well as over sixty episodes of primetime television including The Sopranos, House of Cards, Sex and the City, Boardwalk Empire, and Six Feet Under. He has also directed eight pilots for successful series such as Damages, Nurse Jackie, Ray Donovan, and Sons of Anarchy. He has been nominated for numerous awards, including seven Primetime Emmys. He currently serves as an Executive Producer and the Producing Director on the new HBO series

Rock and Roll airing in January of 2016. He is the uncle of Amelia Coulter.

Initiated and organized by Arezoo Moseni in 2004, Artist Dialogues Series provide an open forum for understanding and appreciation of contemporary art. Artists are paired with critics, curators, gallerists, writers or other artists to converse about art and the potential of exploring new ideas.
