I received this question from an MFA student. I would know how to answer if it were use of an image in her artwork, but not the use of words:I'm wondering about the ethics and laws regarding using poetry that is not in the public domain within someone's artwork. I've been thinking about referencing some poems in my pieces, but I wasn't sure what is allowed and what isn't.Is permission required? Does citing the source material (like in a term paper or thesis) in materials about the artwork cover it?
