Intro to Rare Books and Special Collections

This course will provide a comprehensive introduction to the world of rare books and special collections and participants will learn the vital skills needed to excel in this field. In-class exercises and homework will allow participants to put their newfound knowledge to use immediately.

 

Learning Objectives:

·        Identify the core skills and knowledge needed to successfully manage rare books and special collections

·        Describe the role of digital technologies in rare book librarianship

·        Recall methods for caring and preserving rare books and special collections

·        Recognize the importance of rare book collection development

 

Target Audience:

This class is designed for librarians, archivists, and anyone who is interested in the fundamentals of rare book librarianship and special collections.

Prerequisites:

None

Homework Expectations and Completion Requirements:

Students will participate in class discussion and complete individual assignments.

It is designed for individual participation; each individual must register.
