There was a time not long ago when a library not focused solely on books seemed unthinkable. Today, many libraries are transitioning into the digital age to provide services beyond book lending. Designers and architects are rising to the challenge to develop new ideas to broaden the impact of local libraries. The following panelists will discuss designing libraries for New York’s diverse communities:

Andrew Berman, Andrew Berman Architects, architect of Stapleton Library in Staten Island and the Washington Heights Children’s Reading Room in Manhattan

Chris McVoy, Steven Holl Architects, architect and senior partner in charge of the Hunters Point Community Library in Queens, currently under construction.

David Giles, Center for an Urban Future, research director and co-author of a 2014 report on reimagining New York's branch libraries.

Moderated by Raymund Ryan, curator of architecture at Carnegie Museum of Art.
