Hi fellow ARLIS/NA members,

We're facing a change of policy from not circulating journals (current or
bound) to circulating all bound journals. I'm curious whether it's common
practice for academic libraries to circulate their bound art and
architecture journals. My concern is that images and articles from heavily
illustrated journals are subject to removal or sometimes the entire issue
'walks'. I have to admit that concern is based more on anecdotal evidence
than any real data. And perhaps, as we move forward into a digital world,
it's not such a worry. On the other hand, replacement costs (when
replacement of an issue is even possible) are going up significantly.

So -- a straw poll (if you're interested):

Do you notice that heavily illustrated journals are subject to more damage
than other journals?

If so, does your library take measures to prevent or address the issue?

Thanks much for your thoughts!
Rebecca
