Chief Librarian - Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver, B.C.

DUTIES:
Reporting to the Chief Curator/Associate Director, the Chief Librarian directs the activities of the Vancouver Art Gallery's research library and archives for both in-house and public users. This position plans, manages and evaluates collections, policies, services, staffing, programs, budgets, communications, facilities and operations of the Library in accordance with the museum's goals to ignite curiosity and to promote knowledge and understanding of visual art. As the institution is currently planning a new facility with a larger and more public presence for a resource centre that will house the library, archives and related scholarly activities, the incumbent will envision and adapt library and archival functions for the conditions of the 21st century.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Masters Degree in library and information science or archival science with advanced courses in art history.
• 10 years of related professional experience in an art gallery/museum library including a leadership capacity.
• Comprehensive knowledge and proficiency in principles and practices of knowledge and information management.
• Knowledge of art history, both Canadian and international. Vision of what an art museum library/archive of the future can be.
• Expertise in art books procuring and managing art books, archives and related materials including those that are digital-born.
• Understanding of information technology and internet as tools for meeting the changing needs of library users.
• Experience in planning and developing a new facility.
• Experience in developing and tracking budgets, and fundraising capacity.
• Excellent communication, organizational and administrative skills including public relations and interpersonal abilities.
• Adept at managing multiple priorities.
