Because I’ve gotten a few questions about how to get the Handbook onto your tablet and/or how to read it without a tablet, here is some explanatory text (also now appearing on AAM’s website) that I hope helps everyone to access the publication.

Download the ePub file for all Apple and other devices, except Kindle.  Large file - 175MB, contains video content.

Download the Mobi file for your Kindle device.  Large file - 333MB, contains video content.

Rights & Reproductions: The Handbook for Cultural Institutions is available in two file formats: ePub and MOBI. The ePub file is optimized for the reader experience on a retina display iPad, but can also be read on any other iPad, tablet (non-Kindle), desktop or laptop computer. The MOBI file is the version of the ePub for Kindle users.

Even if you do not own a tablet device, the Handbook can still be read on your desktop or laptop computer utilizing one of the many free e-reader software applications that are available, such as iBooks (http://www.apple.com/macbook/built-in-apps/#ibooks) or Calibre (http://calibre-ebook.com/). The ePub file works best for desktop reading on an Apple or PC computer with one of these readers.

For all users downloading one of these files to load onto a tablet device, it is recommended to download to a computer first and then sync the device with your computer to load the file for reading (instructions for ePub to iPad below).

How to load the ePub file onto an iPad:

·         Make sure the free iBooks app is on the iPad

·         Open iTunes on the desktop or laptop computer

·         Find the downloaded ePub file on the computer

·         Drag and drop the ePub file into the iTunes Library on the computer

·         Connect the iPad to the computer

·         Under the “Books” tab in the iTunes Library on the computer, select the desired ePub file for syncing

·         Sync the ePub file to the iPad

·         The ePub will then be added to the iBooks collection in the iBooks app on the iPad

How to load the MOBI file onto a Kindle:

·         Turn on the Kindle

·         Connect the Kindle to the desktop or laptop computer

·         Drag and Drop the MOBI file into the documents folder on the Kindle

·         When the USB activity indicator on the Kindle stops flashing, unplug the cable from the Kindle

·         The MOBI file will then be added to the Kindle library

May take several minutes to download the complete file.
