Dear All,

works & conversations #30 brings some reflections (#1 was published in 1998). Our "borderlands" theme came out of our lead interview with artist Chris Eckert whose work challenges us with questions from the borderlands between art, technology, religion and science. 85 year-old Vaea Marx talks about fighting in the French resistance, his life traveling the world as a pastry chef, working as a cowboy in Australia, living as a monk in Japan, meeting Hamada, Kurosawa, Yanagi, Kanjiro Kawai and finally discovering his voice as a clay artist through his long connection with Peter Voulkos. Photographer and former editor in chief of the Christian Science Monitor, Paul Van Slambrouck writes about seeing. There’s more. I am happy to send a copy to any librarian who would like a closer look. —Richard Whittaker,  www.conversations.org
