We found that slide projectors were becoming obsolete and we couldn't repair or replace equipment, the publications dept. could no longer easily deal with slides as their technology advanced, plus the curators who used the slide projectors were retiring or moving on. That's why we closed ours. sac

We're not an academic library, but I'm right in the middle of deciding what to do with a 9,000-slide collection that someone got 90 percent cataloged 10 years ago and then stopped. Right now an intern is comparing what's available there to what's on ArtStor and what the museum already has digitized in our permanent-collection database, with an eye toward digitizing what we have uniquely. Nobody has asked for the slides in an age, but I'm hoping that with digital possibilities, the images might get more use.
