Electronic Resources/Reference Librarian - Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL

The Electronic Resources/Reference Librarian reports to the Head of Technical Services and is responsible for ensuring consistent and reliable access to online resources. The incumbent is engaged in all aspects of electronic resource management, including acquisition, licensing, cataloging, troubleshooting, ongoing bibliographic maintenance, and financial and usage analysis. Also responsible for regularly-scheduled reference service and library outreach via social media.

Additional Responsibilities:

Negotiates with vendors and content providers, administers new and existing licenses for electronic products, assists with license interpretation and consults with museum's legal counsel as necessary. Applies knowledge of copyright and intellectual property principles to ensure that rights of library users are protected.

Establishes and maintains effective workflows with Technical Services staff for all electronic resources. Provides relevant statistical data and metrics, including usage and cost analysis, to support collection development decisions and serials budget expenditures. Provides bibliographic control for electronic serials and maintains accurate, timely holdings data in the library's online catalog.

Ensures consistent and reliable access to all electronic resources. Responsible for helping patrons and librarians resolve access issues, in addition to providing general technical support and troubleshooting.

Provides reference service at the reference desk on a regularly scheduled basis. Provides reference and research services to museum staff on demand. Responds to reference questions in various channels on a regular basis.

Works with Reader Services staff to create database instruction materials. Promotes the library's electronic resources using social media and develops relevant web content.

Qualifications:

MLS from an ALA accredited program. Educational background in Art History desirable. At least two years' experience with electronic resources management and reference service. Knowledge of cataloging rules, standards and tools; cataloging experience with electronic resources. A thorough understanding of issues related to electronic resources, including vendors, packages, aggregators, platforms, licensing, pricing models, and financial and statistical management. Familiarity with major bibliographic tools (printed and electronic) and research methods for Art History. Experience working with websites, blogs, and social media. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with staff from all areas of the library.
