Dear Arlisans,

On behalf of the Vassar College Department of Art I shall be giving away, at the Ft. Worth conference, for institutional collections, our stock of the catalogue of the exhibition: The Architect's Library: Notable Books on Architectural Themes in the Vassar College Library, on a first-come first-served basis.

The catalogue documents an exhibition assembled by students of Nicholas' Adams architecture bibliography seminar at Vassar, is beautifully designed, well illustrated, and contains extensive descriptive annotations for books in the Vassar Art and Special Collections Libraries written by architects for architects from Piranesi to Corbusier. Included are essays by Nicholas Adams and Brian Lukacher on Vassar's educational history and the development of the collection. The exhibit and catalog are scheduled to be reviewed in this month's issue of JSAH, due out any day.

If you would like to have a copy of the catalogue sent out to you after this year's ARLIS/NA conference, please add your name & address to the signup sheet that Larry McGilvery has kindly offered to make available on his table at the conference in the exhibits area when the exhibits are open.  A sample of the catalogue is also at the table, along with several copies available for those who prefer not to wait for the mailing.

There is s a recording of my radio interview about the exhibit and catalogue with Nicholas Adams on The Library Cafe at:  http://library-cafe.blogspot.com/2014/02/nicholas-adams.html.  The project is interesting, in part, in that it offers a model for using a college library as a media-archaeological site for introducing students to the history of a discipline, as well as to the way this wider history may intersect with local institutional history.

The architect's library: A collection of notable books on architecture at Vassar College / edited by Nicholas Adams. -- Poughkeepsie, NY: Vassar College Libraries, 2014. -- 143 p. Illustrated (some col.) 26 x 26 cm.

Cheers,

Thomas
