The New York Public Library, the International Center of Photography (ICP), and the Council for Photography from Japan (CPJ) are pleased to announce the Shashin Festival to be held in New York in April.

Shashin is a multi-institution program aimed to raise awareness of photography from Japan, foster an exchange, and stimulate discussion in multiple segments: Academics, students, art collectors, researchers, artists, photographers, Japanophiles, and the general public.

The festival’s main event is a two-day symposium at the New York Public Library of panels and artists' presentation on April 24th and 25th. Registration (free) for the symposium is available here.

Additional events begin on April 18th and are listed here. Concurrently, there will be many exhibitions showcasing photography from Japan in New York and regionally: a growing list is available on the main Shashin Festival website.

On behalf of my colleagues at ICP and CPJ, we look forward to seeing you in New York in April.
