I thought this information might be of interest to several of you.   

Gallica, from the National Library of France, now has online the Fichier Laborde collection -  a listing of Parisian artists and crafts people dating from the 1500s to the 1700s. Access is free.

The books were compiled by the Marquis Léon de Laborde, an early genealogist who wrote out the names and details of all artists and crafts people he found in parish baptism, marriage and death records. This is an important list because many of the parish records were destroyed when the Paris city hall burned in 1871.
