Many years ago (in 1995) there was a survey of architecture school libraries that asked these libraries to categorize themselves according to categories that were then in use by NAAB. See the article by Jeanne M. Brown and Judy Connorton in Art Documentation, vol. 15:1 (1996) p.39-50, titled "Statistical Profile of Academic Architecture Libraries. 54 surveys responses were received. Quoting from the article: "The survey asked respondents to classify their libraries according to NAAB definitions. Thirty-seven identified themselves as branch libraries, 4 as independent libraries, and 13 as architecture collections within main libraries. In compiling results, the authors grouped branch and independent libraries together, hereafter known as Group A (76%); the li respondents situated in main libraries are designated Group B (24%). This approximate 3 to 1 ratio of respondents from branch/independent libraries versus architecture collections in main libraries is the same ratio for these categories of libraries as self-identified in the ACSA Guide to Architecture Schools." It may be interesting to repeat the survey, or maybe we can create a Doode poll to send to Association of Architecture School Librarian (AASL) members and simply ask this specific question. I know a number of branch libraries have closed or been consolidated since the 1995 survey, so this is an interesting question! You can also take a look at the latest Guide to architecture schools put out by ACSA to see if they still include this information. (Copying the AASL list). Best wishes, Janine J. I have been asked to compile a list of architecture libraries that are physically located within schools or departments of architecture. I would appreciate any feedback you can give me. If you are aware of any resource that might be helpful in the compilation of that list, please let me know. Thanks so much! Jeanne Jeanne M.
