Catalog/Reference Librarian - Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL





Duties
Catalogs monographs for the Libraries' collections using Library of Congress Classification, LC subject headings, RDA, OCLC and Millennium.

Re-catalogs and re-classifies existing library materials as necessary. Catalogs non-print formats, including CD-ROMs, DVDs, and archives. Catalogs materials for Special Collections as assigned.

Researches name forms and does authority work; contributes authority records to NACO.

Participates in formation of policy and procedures for Technical Services. Keeps up to date with new and emerging descriptive practices and tools.

Assists in training and revises the work of Cataloging Assistants and volunteers as required.

Provides scheduled reference service; attends Reader Services meetings and training sessions.

Other duties in Technical Services as assigned.


Qualifications
MSLS from an accredited library school; experience in special or museum library preferred.



Demonstrated knowledge of integrated library systems and bibliographic utilities (Millennium, OCLC, etc.) and cataloging codes (RDA, LCSH, etc.).



Bibliographic knowledge of relevant foreign languages (French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Italian or others).



Demonstrated knowledge of art/art history; advanced degree preferred.
