Has he tried Google Patents for the US patents? It's much easier to use than the official Patent Office site.

Subject: [ARLIS-L] 19th & 20th Century Patent Information

Dear Collective wisdom,

A faculty member is trying to find out where to search for 19th & 20th Century American and British patents on building materials and drafting tools & equipment such as the blue print machine and the history of acoustic ceiling tiles? Can anyone recommend a resource?

Thank you,

Gilda
