Dear Colleagues,
I've been asked to post this announcement about a
workshop on cataloging graphics that will be offered at the RBMS
Preconference in Las Vegas. It is being offered by the same trainers as the very successful workshop that took place at our annual conference. Word of mouth afterwards was very positive, so
if you missed the workshop in Washington, here's a second chance to attend.

As you
know, the deadline for 2014 RBMS Preconference early bird
registration is this Friday, but there's still time to
register for the DCRM(G) Workshop!
A few spaces are still open
in the workshop: Applying
Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials (Graphics). This
full day workshop, to be held Tuesday, June 24, 9:00-4:00, at
Bally's Hotel & Casino, is presented by the RBMS
Bibliographic Standards Committee and sponsored by Bauman Rare
Books. Instructors
will be Erin Blake (Folger
Shakespeare Library), Ellen
Cordes (The Lewis Walpole Library), and Helena Zinkham
(Prints & Photographs Division, Library of Congress).
The workshop will introduce
participants to DCRM(G) – the
successor to Elisabeth Betz Parker's Rules for Describing
Original Items and Historical Collections – and provide practice
with this new standard. More information is available on the preconference
website.
If you've already
registered for RBMS and would like to add this workshop to
your registration, please call 800-545-2433 and press
option #5 or email [log in to unmask]
with your request and they will be happy to assist you.
Want to register just for
this workshop without
registering for the entire preconference? It’s easy, just
print the registration form, select the workshop and fax it in.
Or call 800-545-2433 and press option #5 or email [log in to unmask].
Additionally, I am
happy to announce that Merrilee
Proffitt (Senior Program Officer in OCLC Research) and Bob Kosovsky (Curator
of Rare Books and Manuscripts, Music Division, New York Public
Library) will be
conducting a Wikipedia
Editathon on Friday afternoon, June 27, 1:00-4:00, at
UNLV.
This will be of particular interest to those of you who were able to hear the talks on Wikipedia and Librarians at RBMS 2013, but you don’t need to have done so to participate in the Editathon. For more details, or to sign up, please visit the still-in-progress wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:RBMS_edit-a-thon_2014
Registration in the Preconference is not needed for
participation.
