As a previous Library Work Study, I highly recommend this position to new professionals, especially those interested in engaging with a unique and canonical collection of artists' books. Living and working in Banff is also pretty spectacular, as is the opportunity to experience all that a renowned international art centre has to offer. I encourage interested parties to apply and/or share this call widely.

My best,
Jaye

The Banff Centre Library Work Study Program
Program dates: September 8, 2014 - March 6, 2015
Application deadline: June 15, 2014
The Library Work Study program is designed for new library professionals with a background in the arts. This is a hands-on experience that allows individuals an opportunity to work with the Art Librarian to receive direct mentorship on cataloguing, collection management, public program development and public service. Candidates will receive a general overview of the activities of the library with introductions to all aspects of the library. This role compliments studies in arts librarianship and will primarily focus on The Banff Centre Library’s collection of artists’ books.
Practical experience will include the cataloguing and assessment of items in the artist’s book collection as well as the creation of public programs for the library. Learning opportunities also arise through attendance at lectures, workshops and events related to arts programming at The Banff Centre. Benefits to participants include enhanced practical librarianship skills, as well as opportunities for critical thinking, problem-solving, and learning from an experienced library team.  In addition to the practical experience component of the program, participants will have the opportunity to work on personal research activities as outlined in their learning objectives and project proposal.
Library Work Study placements are appropriate for recent graduates of Master in Library and Information Science programs who also possess a degree or have experience in the arts and an interest in artists’ books. This is an opportunity for a new professional to gain experience and expand and develop their careers and capabilities. This program requires full-time commitment.
