At the Museum of International Folk Art these items come to the Archives. The intent is for them to be arranged and described in the archive, to have finding aids, and to be cross-referenced back to the collections database if appropriate, but that’s a work in progress.

We are wondering how other museums handle manuscript collections that relate, either directly or indirectly, to donors and their collections? Are they the responsibility of the registrar’s department? the curatorial department? the library? or the archives? Do they get a finding aid? Or are they accessioned as individual items? Are they cataloged? or what?
