Dear ARLISans,

You can traverse Washington, DC like a local using public transit--from Metrorail to Metrobus to the Capital Bikeshare program. A cab is also never far away, and there are plenty of Ubers lurking. Use our local transportation guide to familiarize yourself with the major options, which revolve around the Metro--a stop is located in the Grand Hyatt! If you plan to use public transit more than a couple of times, we highly recommend you purchase a SmarTrip card, which discounts each metro trip by $1 and makes entering and exiting the stations easier. You can buy one by mail or at the CVS near the hotel.

For those interested in having dinner in Georgetown after the Dumbarton Oaks reception--or in exploring and shopping in the historic neighborhood--you'll find recommendations in the Georgetown Local Guide. After dinner enjoy a stroll along the Georgetown Waterfront Park, with views onto the Kennedy Center and Roosevelt Island.

You can find these guides on Pinterest (complete with maps); on the “About DC” page of the conference website; and on the Local Guides tab of the conference blog.

Enjoy!
