| Abstract: | The article discusses how Greek and Roman art, both of which were inspired by religion and devoted to the adornment of the city, reflected the history, spirit, and character of their corresponding civilizations. The reflection can be seen in the themes in sculpture, vase-painting, and coin types from the archaic and classical periods. While Greek art themes have been derived from legend and mythology, Roman art recorded past events of national importance for the dissemination of Imperial propaganda. |
