Congratulations Alison Larson! On behalf of the ARLIS/NA Texas-Mexico Chapter, I would like to announce this year’s recipient of the 2014 Lois Swan Jones Professional Development Award. As a MLS student at the University of North Texas and a part-time employee in art reference in the Crouch Fine Arts Library at Baylor University, Alison still finds time to support ARLIS/NA. After volunteering for the role as Exhibits Coordinator for the 2015 ARLIS/NA conference in Fort Worth, the program committee for this year’s conference in Washington, D.C. invited her to serve as a moderator for the session: Meet the Policy Experts. Along with these commitments, Alison spent this last year involved as Discussion Liaison for the ArLiSNAP SIG.

The $500 award will support expenses related to attending her first ARLIS/NA annual conference in Washington, D.C. from May 1–5, 2014. In addition to taking advantage of a broad selection of conference programming, she will write an article on her conference experience for the issue of the Chapter’s newsletter The Medium that follows the conference.

The LSJ award honors the memory of Lois Swan Jones, Professor Emerita of art history at the University of North Texas and charter member of the Texas Chapter. Established in 1992, the award supports and encourages participation of a member of the ARLIS/NA Texas-Mexico Chapter at the national level by helping with conference expenses. Professor Jones authored several standard publications on art information research methods and received the 1996 ARLIS/NA Distinguished Service Award. The combination of her enthusiasm, commitment to education, and love for art history serves as a model for art information professionals.

I would also like to thank our Chapter contributors who made this year’s award possible. For full information about the LSJ award, including a list of previous winners, visit: http://www.arlis-txmx.org/lsj-award
