Call for book editor – Art Museum Libraries and Librarianship

Art Museum Libraries and Librarianship was co-published by ARLIS/NA and Scarecrow Press in 2007. It contains essays by 43 contributors from the United States, Canada, and Mexico, representing libraries of all sizes. The original editor of this book, Joan M. Bendetti, is leading the call to update this resource, which was initially conceived 10 years ago. Because much has changed since then, most notably technological innovations and economic pressures, we’d like to update this book to keep it a valuable resource for students and professionals alike. If the publication is approved, it will likely be issued as an e-book.

The new editor will:
• Evaluate how much of the book needs to be updated (possibly one third to one half)
• Identify new content that needs to be added
• Determine if the content should be reorganized
• Put together a publication prospectus in collaboration with the Museum Division—making the case for the new edition—and submit it to the Professional Resources Editor who will present it to the Communications and Publications Committee

• Manage the updates and additions from all of the contributors (if the Publications Committee approves the publication)

If you are interested in taking on this task and becoming the new editor, please contact me off-list by February 15th, 2014 with a brief bio and qualifications. The Museum Division Leadership will select the new editor no later than March 15th, 2014 so that work can begin.
