We are pleased to tell you that WorldImages is back on line, with a new server, new software, and over 100,000 images that can be freely used for educational purposes. Check out http://worldimages.sjsu.edu

We recently added over 4000 images in a variety of areas including art and architecture, politics, and technology; these images emphasize Greece and the Balkans, particularly Bulgaria and Albania.

BALKANS: Prehistoric potters created delightful ceramic figures, while the goldsmiths of ancient Thrace and Macedonia specialized in exquisitely crafted gold objects. The Balkans was an important center for icons and frescoes during the Medieval period, and modern images from Albania tell a powerful political story.

GREECE: Many images have been added to the Greek portfolios, including mosaics from ancient Pella, funerary gold wreaths and coins, and the amazing Antikythera Mechanism, an early computer found in a shipwreck in the Mediterranean Sea. Images from the Athenian Acropolis include back views of the caryatids that are being cleaned with lasers, and the numerous panels from the Parthenon frieze which have been installed in the new Acropolis museum.
