BALKANS: Prehistoric potters created delightful ceramic figures, while the goldsmiths of ancient Thrace and Macedonia specialized in exquisitely crafted gold objects. The Balkans was an important center for icons and frescoes during the Medieval period, and modern images from Albania tell a powerful political story.
