I am compelled to share our work with the list as well. At the Ingalls Library we are currently six months into a linked data initiative. We start with the bibliography held in the museum's object database, searching for books in our library catalog. After confirming the object in print, we add the information to a simple Drupal form that links the object number with the library book number in which it is published. We plan to load the first set of accession numbers into the 905 field of our local bib records shortly. Once the accession numbers are in place, direct links from the museum's collections online<http://www.clevelandart.org/art/collections> to the library catalog will be installed and accession number search within the library catalog will be possible. In addition to retrospective linking, we are also adding numbers for every new book we purchase, as well as integrating our older museum publication index<http://library.clevelandart.org/search_pubindex>. The bulk of the bibliographic lifting is being performed by IMLS interns and volunteers. We are optimistic that the project will be finished by the time we celebrate our 100th anniversary in two years.

Dear Alison,

At the Royal Academy of Arts in London we have also developed a web interface which allows the user to simultaneously search across our collections of books, archives, works of art and photographs:

http://www.racollection.org.uk/

We have also digitised selected plates and illustrations from within certain books in our collection. In these cases, thumbnail images of the digitised plates are displayed in the bibliographic record for the book. Clicking on a thumbnail image takes you to a page displaying a larger image and further information about the plate. See for example: http://www.racollection.org.uk/ixbin/indexplus?record=O11564

Do get in touch if you have any questions about the web-interface and the underlying databases.

Regards,

Adam

Colleagues,

I am looking for examples of linked library catalogs and museum collection databases. When a visitor to your library catalog will be able to link to objects in your museum collection through catalog records and/or vice versa. Also whether you have any kind of discovery layer that covers multiple collections in your institution on your website.

I know of a few, but I want to make sure I am not missing any. Feel free to just send links to relevant web pages. Or let me know if you are currently working on this kind of collaboration and development.

Thank you so much for any information you can provide!

-Alison
