Dear ARLIS Colleagues,

I was recently hired by the San Diego Public Library as the Library Arts and Culture Exhibition Manager. After doing some research and attempted benchmarking of other library exhibition programs, I sadly realized that I had no good outlet for discussion and informal exchange of information. While exhibition fits within programming, and thus the ALA Public and Cultural Programs Advisory Committee (PCPAC) is useful, I was hoping for a more specialized group. ARLIS seems like a natural fit, but while renewing my membership (it lapsed after those lovely student rates expired), I realized there wasn’t a division, section, or even a Special Interest Group (SIG) that fit my needs.

In the last decade I have had the pleasure of participating in many museum professional associations. Now that I am back in the library field, I would like to find like-minded colleagues that can share and learn from.

Would anyone else be interested in  participating in a SIG focused on Library Exhibition Programs? Alternatively, if you feel like this is a duplicative effort of a  resource that already exists I ask that you please let me know what it is, so I too can participate!

Many thanks,

Kara West, MLIS
