ART LIBRARY ACQUISITIONS SUMMIT

Date: Friday, October 18, 2013

Time: 3:30 - 5:00 pm

An open forum for collection development librarians and others to share your library’s newest ideas, innovations and resources; discover best practices; and freely pose acquisitions-related questions among friends. Please share this announcement with your colleagues. It is open to anyone with an interest in managing art library resources.

RSVP: Please reply by Friday, October 11th, to [log in to unmask] with “Acquisitions Summit” in the subject line.

Part 1: WHAT ARE YOU UP TO?

An opportunity for attendees to give a brief presentation (5-8 minutes, in order to leave time for discussion) on recent developments, innovations and resources in their libraries. To secure a spot on the agenda in advance, including any AV needs, or to recommend discussion topics, write to Ross Day, [log in to unmask], or you can pose topics for discussion on site.

Part 2: WHAT’S ON YOUR MIND? AND WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

An open discussion of topics of common concern across the group. Possible topics include:

·         Meeting user needs: Offering digital formats such as pdfs on in-house and patron-hosted platforms, such as iPad, Kindle and smart phones; Non-print media (sound, video, data sets); Interdisciplinary and non-art subject areas; On-site and remote access to electronic resources; Expectations for tailored notifications and immediate delivery

·         The Evolving Marketplace: DDA; approval plans; DRM; Vendor marketing strategies; What’s out there (and what’s not: getting the titles we want the way we want them)

·         Your Library: Facing budgeting realities; Storage and retention policies; Acquisition and circulation metrics; Accountability; Staffing and personnel management

In addition we hope to secure a special international guest for the event: stay tuned!

Location: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Bonnie Sacerdote Lecture Hall in the Uris Education Wing on the south side of the museum. Please enter the museum by the ground floor doors at 81st Street, not the main stairs at 82nd, and take the long corridor out of Burke Hall. Stickers will be distributed at the door.

Reception: A reception will follow in the Thomas J. Watson Library from 5 to 6 pm. The Museum will be open until 9:00 pm.
