UNBUILT SAN FRANCISCO: AMBITION AND IMAGINATION

EXHIBITION DATES

September 14-November 8, 2013

LOCATION AND HOURS

UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design

Wurster Hall Gallery (110 Wurster)
Wednesday - Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Unbuilt San Francisco at the College of Environmental Design will feature renderings and models of buildings that never came to be, such as a residential resort on what are now the ruins of Sutro Baths, early versions of landmarks like Coit Tower, apartments by Mies van der Rohe, several acclaimed but unbuilt recent projects by designers such as Renzo Piano, Cesar Pelli, George Hargreaves, and SOM, and rhetorical visions that challenge viewers to imagine new ways of urban life. The exhibition includes treasures from archival collections, architecture firms, and private architectural collections.

EDA is one of five Bay Area institutions participating in the multi-faceted project, Unbuilt
San Francisco, including the Center for Architecture + Design (CAD), American Institute of
Architects, San Francisco (AIASF); San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association
(SPUR), and San Francisco Public Library (SFPL). Each institution will display treasures from their collections, exhibit drawings and models from architecture and landscape firms; architectural
renderers, and pieces from private architectural collections, as well as commission new works,
and create companion programming including panel discussions and lectures.
