Call for Papers, 2014 Chicago CAA Conference OPEN CALL FOR PAPERS: Catalogue Raisonné Scholars Association Panel at College Art Association Conference, Chicago, Feb 12-15, 2014

Session Topic:  CATALOGUE RAISONNÉ RESEARCH AND CONTEMPORARY TRENDS IN ART HISTORICAL DISCOURSE

Catalogues raisonnés, by definition, are essential tools for art historians, curators, librarians, and dealers whose research focuses on understanding the development and oeuvres of individual artists.  But how do researchers who are investigating the social, political, economic, and intellectual history of art make use of catalogues raisonnés?  And how do (and how should) researchers who are interested in the theory and psychology of art, in collaborative and ephemeral practices of art making, in interdisciplinary modes of historical analysis, and in the dissemination and reception of art within and across historical periods and cultures use catalogues raisonnés?  Does the experience of writing a catalogue raisonné inform the author's non-C.R.-related research?  Should the traditional content, structure and goals of the catalogue raisonné change to reflect ongoing developments in artistic and art historical discourse?

To Submit a Paper Proposal:

The CRSA panel (exact date tbd) at CAA will consist of 4-5 short presentations (15 minutes each), followed by a brief Q & A with the audience.  Speakers do not need to be members of CRSA, or authors of catalogue raisonnés.  Please send proposals or speaker recommendations to: Susan Cooke, Program Director, CRSA, at  [log in to unmask].  For further information about CRSA: www.catalogueraisonne.org
