Hello ARLIS/NA members,
I am working with an art history professor who is looking for reviews of the May 1871 International Exhibition at South Kensington Museum, London, specifically on the French section.

More generally, she is looking for primary source art criticism of women in interiors from 1870-1914 and interested both in the Paris Salon reviews and the Royal Academy reviews in London. She recently ordered Castagnary's Salon reviews.

She is trying to find evidence that art critics are cognizant of the theme of bored women in paintings. She's found a lot of literary evidence, but wants to back it up in terms of a cultural dialogue amongst the art critics.

I looked in several primary source databases including Wellesley Index, Periodicals Archive, 19th Century Masterfile, and 19th Century British Newspapers to find reviews that fit her interest, but have struck out.
If you have any further ideas, I would very much appreciate it.

Sincerely,
Jennifer
