Dear Luke,

We catalog small brochures that document exhibitions, some have a checklist, or an essay, they may be [6] folded pages.
For a research on a young contemporary artist, or a small art gallery, they are important documents, we think. Our ILL usage of these materials is very high so I encourage you to catalog them. We find that MoMA LIbrary often has a record for small items on OCLC.  Anna Brooke

Subject: [ARLIS-L] Collecting Art Gallery Ephemera

All,

The Marriott Library has recently had a large donation of art-related books from a retired art historian.  In our processing efforts we have come across several large pamphlets/booklets/foldouts from galleries across the US.  The pamphlets generally have images of art that were included in the advertised shows with very little additional text.

Have others come across objects like this and considered adding them to your collections?  I’d be interested to hear if people decided to add these items or not, and why they made their decision.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Luke Leither
