Greetings and welcome home ARLISIANS!

I'm extending an invitation to all who are near and far to my opening this
weekend! My new open shop is directly below my catalogued division here at
121 Walnut Street, Columbia, PA 17512. I am 70 minutes north of Baltimore,
90 minutes west of Philadelphia and 4 hours north of Richmond. The hours of
the Opening are 9 AM to 5 PM. Tasty treats and organic foods will be
available, as will a few vegetable baskets to the chefs amongst us. No pony
rides or balloons, though, Just great books and great people!

After this Saturday, the regular shop hours will be as follows:

Thursday, Friday: 10 to 5 PM

Saturday: 10 to 6 PM

Sunday: Noon to 6 PM

My open shop will feature 1100 feet of shelving devoted to items of merit,
mostly related to the fine and dec arts, with subject headings that mirror
my catalogued books. In addition to books on the fine and dec arts, there
will be hefty sections of auction catalogues, biographies, ephemeral items,
and a wealth of Misc items that is sure to please and astound!

The books in the new shop will consist of duplicates from my catalogued
stock, as well as items whose monetary value does not make them worth
cataloguing from a business perspective. Which is not to say the books are
not worthwhile, as we all know. I just can't afford to catalogue them!

Duplicates from catalogued stock will mostly be 50% off list price, making a
trip here extremely worthwhile. There will also be many, many items priced
from $1 to $3. The vast majority of items are priced below $30, making this
a great place to shop for someone who is not needing perfect copies of books
for their research library and who is on a budget.

The second floor catalogued and rare books are available for review by
appointment or persuasion, since these are not open to the general public.

Please spread the word far and wide that there is a new shop open devoted to
our favorite types of books and help make this a success and help keep the
printed book relevant!

See you there, and thank you!

Subject: [ARLIS-L] What a wonderful conference!

Dear colleagues:

I agree wholeheartedly with the congratulatory comments about the
excellent conference we just attended. It was superbly organized, with
rich content in all the sessions I attended, great social events, full
pertinent information about the work of the society during the past year and
its plans for the future, first-rate use of sound and visual equipment to
enhance our learning experience, not to mention the enormous pleasure of
seeing Ted Goodman receive an award he so richly deserves, the DSA. So far
as I could tell, there were no glitches whatsoever in the execution of the
plans, and if there were, we couldn't see them! On a purely personal note,
may I dare say that, as one of what I am coming to consider the
"old-timers," I had the joy of seeing many long-time colleagues and friends
who continue to participate in our annual conferences. It attests both to
the value we assign to the role that ARLIS/NA has played over the years in
our professional and even personal lives, and to its continuing role as a
guide for our newest colleagues.

Thanks to all the 2013 conference organizers and to the generous
sponsors. A splendid job was done by all.
