Our docents kept many that they selected to digitize for their PowerPoint presentations in the schools & other outreach programs.
We found a local independent school that does not have PowerPoint and would like our slide collection. They’ll cart it away this summer and have offered the one user (yes, one!—an artist who also teaches) access to the collection at their school. We are keeping
the slides of works in the museum’s collection as we work at digital photographing of the art collection. The 100s—maybe 1,000s—of slides sitting around waiting to be processed (not mounted or arranged) will go to our art educators who plan to use them in
art projects. Some of the carousels will go to the school. Any extras will probably go to a thrift store, along with some equipment if the school doesn’t want it.
If the independent school teacher had not stepped forward (she has been using the slide collection for years), we might have offered
them for free on Craigslist to an “educational institution.”

Subject: [ARLIS-L] Needing advice on slides and carousels
Hello art librarians,
I'd like your advice on what to do with slides and carousels that are no longer needed. We are also not interested in digitizing them unless someone felt strongly that
we should. I am happy to donate them to an institution. I have been removed from art libraries for awhile and am not familiar with current practices. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
With many thanks, Jennifer
