Plans are heating up for the Summer Educational Institute for Visual Resources and Image Management<http://sei.vrafoundation.org/> (SEI), to be held at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor from June 18-21, 2013. There are a few remaining places, but registration is expected to fill up soon, so secure your spot while you can! Addressing the evolving requirements of image management professionals, expert instructors will cover intellectual property rights, a hands-on digital imaging workshop, and resources for cataloging. Recent curriculum innovations include a re-tooled "tools of the trade" session; a panel considering the future of metadata; and an "expanding your role" session. The SEI "think-camp" will identify topic preferences from registrants, such as future of the profession, uses of new media, support of digital humanities research, and visual literacy, and provide the opportunity for less formal, "unconference"-style discussions. Several SEI instructors have recently received special recognition: Emily Puckett Rogers, one of the SEI ThinkCamp facilitators, was named a 2013 "Mover and Shaker" by Library Journal. Greg Reser, who will be teaching embedded metadata and participating on the "Future of Metadata" panel, was honored with the Nancy DeLaurier Award for distinguished achievement in the field of visual resources at the 2013 VRA Conference. This collaborative effort of the Art Libraries Society/North America (ARLIS/NA) and the Visual Resources Association Foundation (VRAF) is now in its tenth year. More than 400 people serving in a range of professional roles have benefited from the intensive training in image management topics, including visual resources curators, university librarians, archivists, and museum professionals.
