The mystique of the Colorado Street Bridge is undeniable.  For nearly a century the grand landmark has stood as a beacon to all who come to Pasadena.  Over the years the bridge has become a symbol of achievement in preservation, engineering and civic pride – an object of art and inspiration.

As Pasadena prepares to celebrate the Colorado Street Bridge Centennial this year, Pasadena Museum of History has teamed up with photographer Tavo Olmos, who documented the extensive Bridge Restoration Project during 1991-1993, to present a special exhibit of photos at Pasadena Central Library.  The display is on view during Library hours in the glass cases immediately inside the North Entrance to the Library (parking lot side) throughout the month of April.

These photographs will also be featured at Pasadena Museum of History as part of the City’s 127th anniversary celebration on June 22 -- Happy Birthday Pasadena: Celebrating Bridges, sponsored by the Museum and the City of Pasadena.  The free, community celebration will use the Bridge’s 100th birthday as a catalyst to explore organizations that “bridge” aspects of Pasadena's vibrant community and culture.

A collectable book of Tavo Olmos’ photographs, featuring contributions by the principals who guided the restoration project to fruition, will be published by Balcony Press and available by this summer. In addition, a major exhibition on the Colorado Street Bridge - including these images and many more photographs, artwork and bridge-related objects – will open in November 2013 at Pasadena Museum of History.  Further details will be announced soon.

The Pasadena Central Library is located at 285 E Walnut St Pasadena, CA 91101; (626) 744-4066.
