Hi Ruth

A book I think your student would find incredibly useful, at least for the early years of the 20th century is:

Fotografía Pública. Photography in Print 1919-1939.
Madrid, Spain: Aldeasa/ Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, 1999  (271pp)  ISBN 84-8026-125-0 /84-8003-135-0  [Text in English and Spanish]

The book was published to accompany a touring exhibition organised by the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.  It’s extensively illustrated and includes biographies of photographers who produced images for the leading modernist and avant-garde publications during the inter-war years with examples of their work

All the best

Chris

A graduate student is researching:  “I am conducting research on the use of photographs in twentieth-century decorative arts books.  Specifically, I am interested in the changing technology employed in printing photographs within books.”

I can find a lot of information on the 19th century –not necessarity decorative arts, though.  But the  20th century is eluding me entirely.

Any tips on where to go?  Tried the ususal databases and Googling around.

Thanks,
Ruth Thomas, Mugar Library, Boston University
