Dear learned colleagues, I received lots of answers yesterday, after consulting both the ARLIS and ARCLIB e-mail lists, concerning a Mies quotation ("Architecture is the will of an epoch translated into space"), and people seem to agree that the primary - published - source is: Mies van der Rohe, Ludwig: "Baukunst und Zeitwille" (=Architecture and (the) Will of (an) Age) In: Der Querschnitt 4 (1924) no 1, pp 31-32 According to Worldcat several of your libraries had subscriptions to this journal, but I don't know if you have the 1924-issues. Our patron got a paper in return from an editor, because she did not have the original quotation, and I would like to help her! Would it be possible for (one of!!!) you to scan the two pages and send them to me as an attachment to a mail? WITH COPY TO THE LIST, so I only receive one attachment. Copy - or not - I am, once again impressed with your helpfulness and knowledge! All the best, Kjersti (ARCLIB member) - and our library has this book, where the quotation is cited - in English: Mies reconsidered : his career, legacy, and disciples / organized by John Zukowsky ; with essays by Francesco Dal Co ...
