Sheila,
I'd probably keep the shelflist card with a note about the item being withdrawn and pull/discard all of the cards from the public card catalog.
In card catalog days at Cornell, we only kept the secondary cards for one edition of a work so you probably want to be conscious of practices like that. We kept the secondaries for the latest edition and then there would be a card for all of the editions with the main entry. That is, you want to be sure that you have a full set of cards for SOME edition of the work.
Good luck.

Hi Everyone,I need some help.I am withdrawing previous editions of publications that the library can no longer keep. We still use a card catalog and it is here that I need the help. When I pull the catalog cards for items that will be withdrawn do I remove and destroy all the cards associated with the item, or do I keep any cards annotated as a record of what happened to the item? It is many, many years since I studied this at library school, and I can find no help on-line as everything now seems to relate to electronic records.sacSheila A. Cork
