We regret the passing of the great master of Brazilian and world architecture, Oscar Niemeyer, yesterday (Dec. 5th, 2012) at 104 years of age. Hospitalized for 33 days, remained lucid to the end and until a few days before his death met with his team working at the hospital to discuss projects. Son of the aristocracy, he felt honored to declare himself "the only atheist and communist" in the family. His works have started in the 1940s and continued until the beginning of the 21st century. His work is internationally renowned as COPAN building and auditorium Ibirapuera Park and the Latin America Memorial in Sao Paulo; Palace Capanema and Sambadrome in Rio de Janeiro, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Niterói; complex Pampulha in Belo Horizonte, the Museu Oscar Niemeyer in Curitiba and unparalleled works in Brasilia, as the Alvorada Palace, National Congress, the Cathedral, etc.. His work also spread throughout the world, as the Communist Party headquarters and Lacave Winery Château in France, the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Azores (Portugal), the Atelier Saint Moritz, Switzerland, the Arab-South American library, in Algeria and the Universidad of Sciences and Informatics, Cuba.
