Dear list, I am pleased to announce the availability of a new book published by YYZ Books, "H& IT ON," featuring 100 pages of new work by pioneering conceptual artist IAIN BAXTER& (aka Iain Baxter, N.E. Thing Co.) that loosely updates media theorist Marshall McLuhan’s 1967 collaboration with graphic designer Quentin Fiore, "The Medium is the Massage" : http://www.yyzartistsoutlet.org/event/exhibition-jaime-angelopoulos/ I am the editor of the project, which also features an essay of mine that situates BAXTER&'s early information art within the very first history of Canadian artists working with 'information' as a medium. The book also includes an essay by American scholar Dennis Durham which compares the cybernetic work of the Vancouver-based N.E. Thing Co. with the work of American peers Robert Smithson and Dan Graham. McLuhan scholar Richard Cavell traces the McLuhanesque genealogy of H& IT ON in a preface. Best regards, Adam Lauder W.P.
