Hello, Kathleen --

We circulate Pico projectors in our facility, and while people generally seem to really appreciate that we have them, we have encountered a few issues. I asked my colleague, Lia Pileggi, about your inquiry and she offered this response:

"Here in our equipment checkout facility we have 3 Optima PK201 Pico projectors.  The students seem to really like them for their size, but we have run into two major issues.  First, the projectors cannot mirror the display from a Mac computer.  We put micro SD cards into the projectors so students can transfer files directly to the projectors, but some still would like the ability to mirror a Mac display.  Second there seem to be a few video files that the projectors intermittently will not support, even though their documentation states that they do. The only video file that seems to consistently work is an mpeg4.

"So, overall I think they could be great pieces of equipment if their compatibility issues were sorted out."

We do plan to acquire a few more pocket projectors, but we will do some research about cross-platform and file compatibility before we invest in more of the Optima models.

Best wishes,
Elaine

Hi all -

Is anyone circulating pico projectors or similar equipment? I'm working on a wish list and have had requests from some faculty for these, but I haven't used them before and I thought I'd tap the wisdom of this crowd to see if others had feedback to share.

Thanks!
