I am interested in the knowing the answer to this question as well. It seems that the Art Museum ebook model is oriented, much like commercial music, to the individual buyer. How libraries will be making this kind of content available to our researchers and general users is a quandary. Is there a way to help develop a model that will serve needs beyond the individual customer. If museums are using the “iModel” libraries will be left out of the loop. While many academic libraries are talking “resource sharing”, “shared collection development,” etc., development of non-university press and non-text oriented ebooks is not interested in this at all.

What if a library had an institutional subscriber/ membership to a museum? Could that be a way to get all virtual epublications from that museum? Currently Ebsco handles our institutional subscriptions to journals and ejournals. Could Ebsco handle this type of subscription, or any other vendor for that matter? (e.g. Harrassowitz). Has anyone tried to bring these parties together to see if this could work?

The added content in the AGO e-book below sounds wonderful. Unfortunately, I don’t see a way for us to acquire this e-book for the University library’s collection.

I would be interested in knowing if any other institutions have found a way to offer iTune resources (music or art) to their university community – other than asking the students to acquire them directly.

Thanks.

Best,

Marilyn

AGO LAUNCHES FIRST E-BOOK

The AGO has announced that IAIN BAXTER Works 1958-2011, its first ever eBook, has just launched. The core of the book is derived from the print version recently published in conjunction with the exhibition, with added layers of video content originally produced for the interpretative context of the exhibition. This video footage consists of interviews with BAXTER& at his home in Windsor, in which he discusses key works from across the span of his career. The eBook gives them a permanence, and a context not otherwise possible, and also gives more presence to the artist in the book.

The eBook was produced with the publisher Goose Lane Editions, and Apple. Trailer Park (interactive design) converted the book's design files into the eBook format.

Requires iPad (2 or above) and iBooks 2. Price C$ $24.95. Available from: <http://itunes.apple.com/us/book/iain-baxter/id512989059?mt=11> http://itunes.apple.com/us/book/iain-baxter/id512989059?mt=11
