Art Researchers' Guide to Edinburgh
Art Libraries Society UK & Ireland (ARLIS)
Edited by Kerry Eldon and Rose Roberto
ISBN: 978-0-9562763-2-2
Available: June 2012

Through a visual narrative, this handbook to Scotland's capital city will take readers to libraries and repositories in Edinburgh with art and design resources, revealing whether that material is in book, or audio visual format. It describes all the major libraries and repositories in Edinburgh with art and design resources. Aimed specifically at those researching history of art and architecture, as well as overlapping areas of local history, it will allow researchers to discover hidden collections of archives, manuscripts, and local collections relevant to understanding these subjects. It allows readers to more fully explore the city, and direct them to the most appropriate libraries and archives to suit their research needs.

This convenient, portable guide contains a time saving alphabetical index of the collections, broken down into 80 subject areas covering topics from auction catalogues to tapestries. It includes a citywide map, navigation icons and colour images of each building and institutional treasures, making it is suitable both for first-time visitors to Edinburgh and long-time researchers wishing to track down some of the smaller libraries.

Art Researchers’ Guide to Edinburgh is a collaboration between eighteen Edinburgh based librarians, archivists and curators. It is the second in a series after the Art Libraries Society UK & Ireland (ARLIS) published Art Researchers’ Guide to Leeds.
