Many cultures believe an evil eye can cause injury or bad luck for the person at whom it is directed for reasons of envy or dislike. Attempts to ward off the curse of the evil eye have led to proliferation of talismans around the Mediterranean, especially in Turkey. Contemporary artists explore the Turkish “evil eye” and find commonality within their own culture. Featuring Jonas Angelet, Michele Castagnetti, Adam Cooper-Terán, Lisa Rybovich Crallé, Asya Dodina / Slava Polishchuk, Hale Ekinci, Rehab El-Sadek, Anujan Ezhikode, Roya Farassat, Julia Forrest, Becky Franco, Flore Gardner, Irene Gennaro, Nigel Grimmer, Stephen Hoffman, Reineke Hollander, Beth Krensky, Batya Kuncman, Howard Lerner, Anush Mirbegian, Zac Monday, Shervone Neckles, Yasemin Ozsavasci Nehan, Carin Riley, Jennie Thwing, Shelton Walsmith, and Gus Yero.
