Dear friends and colleagues,

 

As some of you may already know, one year ago we joined a research project financed by the European Commission, www.mela-project.eu, which set out to research and analyze, among other aspects of current museums, the changing role of museums and libraries in our current age of migrations (knowledge, but also money and people migrations). Within this context, we, MACBA Study Center, together with the Royal College of Art in London, has chosen as a topic the exhibition as a discursive tool. In particular, we at MACBA have undertaken the task of analyzing the way exhibition documentary "traces" are currently archived (or not archived at all) in museums and galleries worldwide, so as to question current patterns and come up with something like a "manual of best practices" that describe such patterns, suggests new methods and enlarges their scope.

 

So as to start with this task, we have uploaded an online questionnaire that you can find here:

We would be most thankful if, by June 20, you could take 20 minutes to answer this questionnaire (you do not necessarily have to answer 100% of the questions), or forward this message and the link to the person in your institution who could answer it. It is for sure that the information you provide us with will be most valuable.

 

With all of these results, before the end of 2012 we plan to publish a report which you will of course receive, and which we hope to be able to circulate so widely as possible.
