Deirdre Spencer, Head, Fine Arts Library at the University of Michigan
has published a brief essay in a new book entitled "The 21st-Century
Black Librarian in America: Issues and Challenges" (Scarecrow Press,
2012). This collection of essays is the third in a series dedicated to
Dr. E.J. Josey, a pioneer in librarianship and civil rights, and
includes articles by library educators, graduate students, retired
librarians, public library trustees, veteran librarians, and recent
library school graduates. Ms. Spencer's essay, entitled "Academic Art
Librarianship and the Black Librarian", is the first and only
